While it was now nighttime, the moon was visible and offered sufficient light to highlight the way. But even if it was darker than the darkest cave, I felt that He could always see through the blackness.
After some time had passed, we arrived at the outskirts of the city. As we did, it became clear to me that Jesus knew exactly where He was going.
In the darkness, He turned toward the right and began to walk toward a building that seemed little more than a rundown barn. From a distance of one hundred yards or so, I could see the flickering lights of torches through the gaping holes in the walls.
The Messiah then stopped and looked toward the building for several seconds. He then went back down on His knees to pray.
As He did, I tried to move closer and closer to Him without disturbing Him or His prayer. At that young age, I was still frightened by many things in the world. Both known and unknown. One of them being the dark. I felt very safe and secure when I was near Him and kept moving closer until I was but three feet away.
After a number of minutes in silent prayer, He stood and looked once again toward the worn-down building. As He was looking, I suddenly noticed a man walking away from it and down the road toward us. This manâs head was down and he seemed to be in deep thought.
Just as he was about to walk straight into the Messiah, Jesus called out softly to the man, âSimon. What fills your mind, so?â
As the tall and thin man stopped in shock, I saw his mouth drop open and his eyes go wide in fear and confusion.
âThat voiceâ¦â he cried out in the dark of the night. âThat voice. I know that voice. Is it possible? Is it really true? Can it be you?â
âIt is me, Simon. It is me, my Rock.â
Like all, the man fell to his knees as he wrapped his arms around the legs of the Messiah. Jesus laid His right hand upon the head of the man.
âStand, my Rock. Go back inside and tell the others I am here.â
The man jumped to his feet, and even in the very pale light of the moon, I could see an enormous smile spread across his face just before he turned and ran back toward the building. After he ran into the building, the Messiah looked down at me.
âDo not be frightened, Little Lamb, at what is about to happen to you.â
Before the words even registered in my mind, I felt a strange whoosh of motion within my mind and around my body and then instantly found myself standing in the corner of a barely lit room. My mind and body were now completely locked in place as I tried to comprehend how I could be standing out in the woods one second, and the very next, standing in the corner of a room.
My mind felt heavy with the confusion and I fought not to pass out on the spot.
